Having spent his career split variously across both the savagery of Wall Street and the high stakes of the technology sector, polymath Mustafa Khetty is finally focusing on the emotional rock that has stayed with him throughout his life – music. Born in Sri Lanka but having lived in Ireland, US, Middle and Far East and the UK, Mustafa grew up listening to classic rock like Led Zeppelin and prog giants like Yes, music he has often returned to to escape the stresses of his business life but also to inspire his own musical aspirations.
Ironically, it is another field of music entirely in which he looking
looking to make his first steps, with a classical eulogy to the victims
of 2019’s appalling terrorist attack on the people of Christchurch, New
Zealand. With a real deftness of touch, it certainly pulls on the
heart-strings and is a fitting tribute to those who have fallen as the
result of random acts of violent and terror. This is no one-off project
though, with an equally expansive, multi-layered project…or perhaps more
precisely ‘prog-ject’ due for release in 2020.
“Thank you so much for your email. We appreciate your kind words and
the composition you have made to commemorate the tragedy of March 15th
2019.” – Office of the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern NZ
Mustafa Khetty is a composer and song writer with little formal musical
training but remarkable talent. Born in Sri Lanka, having lived in
Ireland, UK, Middle East and Far East, with each experience contributing
to a rich and diverse palette of musical influence. His journey began
early exposed to Indian classical music and later on western classical,
progressive rock and other genres. He started writing music at the age
of 12 and scored the first sketches of a Rock/Classical fusion
concerto, toccata and fugue and other pieces by 15.
The
new single, Requiem for New Zealand, was originally inspired by the
tragic events in Christchurch, New Zealand on 15th March 2019, when a
terrorist attack left 51 innocent people murdered and 49 injured.
Requiem for New Zealand is dedicated to victims of hate crime around the
world.
By the end of 2017, it was a full circle return to his
first passion after nearly 36 year as a successful Wall Street trader,
investor and IT entrepreneur. His music style ranges across different
genres and fusion of both western and eastern styles and instruments
merging soundscapes forming a tapestry of moods, emotions, rhythmic
patterns and harmonic layers. Often described as world music, his
creative spirit is free from rules. A bohemian at heart, his music and
acoustic expressions are a reflection of his travels, life experiences
and observations.

His musical journey began early, with Mustafa exposed to Indian classical music and later on western classical, progressive rock and other genres. His appetite for risk lead him down the path of business and money, bringing about a career of nearly 35 years as a prolific investor and IT entrepreneur. This all stopped in 2017 when he decided to step away from that ruthless environment to return to his first passion. At age 12, Mustafa started writing music and scored the first sketches of a Rock/classical fusion concerto, toccata and fugue. Age 15 and many compositions later his talent and prowess were clear.
Now Mustafa has given up his cut-throat career to put his musicality to use, creating a piece that reflects on contemporary social issues. The upcoming track is inspired by the Christchurch mosque shootings that took place in New Zealand last year. These were two consecutive terrorist shooting attacks that took place during Friday Prayer on the 15th March 2019.
Mustafa hopes that the track will represent ‘a multitude of sounds across cultures’ with ‘instruments [and] styles interwoven in a tapestry of sound and emotions’.
